Lee read through headlines from the Des Moines Register about the new Trader Joe's in West Des Moines and the status of the food desert in central Des Moines.
She acknowledged Iowa's highly-rated positions on energy-efficiency, state initiatives, and utility programs. She also commented on Governor-elect Terry Branstad's stance on renewable energy resources including wind and biofuel as well as Senator Charles Grassley's efforts for a renewable energy standard that included nuclear energy and clean coal. Lee also ran down a list of various state programs and organizations including the Iowa Power Fund, Iowa Office of Energy Independence, and Iowa Department of Economic Development.
She defined biomass, biofuel, biodiesel, and bioalcohol, then listed how they've been introduced into the traditional fuel economy. Lee introduced documents and websites from Environmental Law & Policy Center, Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, the National Biodiesel Board, the American Ag & Energy Council, Iowa State University to the program.
